How a Competition Works
A typical figure competition has two rounds.
Round One
During the first round, the competitors come on stage in their designated class together, in a one piece suit and high heels. There is a series of quarter turns to the right, in which the competitors first face the judges in a front pose. The head judge will then ask the competitors to quarter turn to the right, where the girls will do a side pose. Again asked to quarter turn to the right, the back pose is then executed. One more quarter turn to the right and the other side is now posed.
The judges compthe figure are competitors from all sides for symmetry, presentation, skin tone, hair, makeup, suit selection, and shoe choice.
Round Two
The second round is the two piece round. Again, the competitors execute the series of quarter turns and are judged more critically against the other competitors for leanness, conditioning, and feminine muscularity.
In one or both rounds, or it could wait until the evening show, competitors perform a model walk individually where they are judged again on their presentation, grace, poise, and confidence.
